Our Background
The Prince George Sexual Assault Centre was started locally over 40 years ago. We are the only sexual assault help centre north of Kamloops. A referral is not required to use our services, we provide free counselling and support services in a safe and supportive environment for individuals, families and groups. We work with people to help them overcome the effects of sexual violence. We advocate for societal change that does not tolerate oppression, exploitation or violence in any form. We strive to influence and increase awareness by delivering public education, and as a community, create a culture free from sexual violence.
1980
CREATION
In the early 80’s the centre was created by three courageous women who took an add out in the local paper advertising support for those who had been impacted by sexual assault.
We will always honour the grandmothers who started our centre and society.
1984
INCORPORATION
In 1984 the Prince George Sexual Assault Centre was incorporated and gained it’s non-profit status.
There was a time PGSAC was not able to be a part of the Canadian Sexual Assault Centre’s Association due to the fact that we have always supported men, trans, and non-binary people.
2024
SERVICE
July 2024 marked 40 years that PGSAC has been supporting Prince George and surrounding Northern Communities.
Since the centre’s inception, we have always served people of all genders, races, religions, and sexualities.
