Our Mission Statement

The Prince George Sexual Assault Centre provides counselling, advocacy, and support services in a safe and supportive environment for individuals, families, and groups. We work with women, men, children, and all LGBTQ2SIA+ people to help them overcome the effects of sexual violence. We advocate for societal change that does not tolerate oppression, exploitation, or violence in any form. We strive to influence and increase awareness by delivering public education, and together as a community, create a culture free from sexual violence.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at 250-564-8302

The PGSAC 24/7 helpline is 1-866-212-5780 and is meant to be used to get help/support within 72 hours of a sexual assault.

PROGRAMS

wOMEN’s
Program

Provides counselling services for women, those identifying as female and non-binary individuals over 18 who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, recent sexual assault or violence and/or are in violent relationship.

MEN’s
program

Provides counselling services for men, those identifying as male, and non-binary individuals over 18 who have experienced sexual violence at some time in their lives. Counselling, education and support services for non-offending survivors of sexual violence and support for significant others and relatives of survivors.

Youth
program

Provides counselling services, education and advocacy for any youth aged 14-18 who have experienced sexual violence. Today’s youth face multidimensional issues when it comes to sexuality and sexual behavior. Considering media and culture, youth are subject to mixed messages about sexuality and relationships.

CHILDREn’s
Program

Provides counselling services to any children ages 3-13 who have been sexually abused. Childhood sexual abuse is a traumatic event in the lives of children and their families; it distorts their sense of the world and themselves. The children’s program can also assist families through the trauma with support and education, providing a safe place to express thoughts and feelings through play and art therapies. Children will rebuild personal capacity, self-worth, and trust in themselves, others, and the world.

LGBTQ2SIA+  Positive Space

Within the LGBTQ2SIA+ community, transgender people and bisexual women face the most alarming rates of sexual violence. Among both of these populations, sexual violence begins early, often during childhood. We want to end this cycle and provide support for those who have endured this violence.

  • The 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey found that 47% of transgender people are sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetime.

  • 44% of lesbians and 61% of bisexual women experience rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner, compared to 35% of heterosexual women

  • 26% of gay men and 37% of bisexual men experience rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner, compared to 29% of heterosexual men

  • 46% of bisexual women have been raped, compared to 17% of heterosexual women and 13% of lesbians

  • 22% of bisexual women have been raped by an intimate partner, compared to 9% of heterosexual women

  • 40% of gay men and 47% of bisexual men have experienced sexual violence other than rape, compared to 21% of heterosexual men

PGSAC Voices with Lynnell & Kendra

Welcome to the Prince George Sexual Assault Centre's podcast, “Voices”, with Lynnell and Kendra, presented in partnership with Country 97 FM. This is a podcast aiming to break down barriers, address stigma, and talk all things gender and sexual violence. These episodes were recorded on the unceded, traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. They discuss some sensitive subject matter that may be triggering to some listeners. Please take care of yourselves, and reach out to a mental health professional should you need it.
